New Blog

After lots of back and forth, I have decided to move everything to the new blog. It’s too much work to update two different blogs, and I just can’t do it. As much as I love this blog, I think the new one has a cleaner, simpler name – and so that’s the one I’m going to stick with. It also really sounds like me. I’ve never really been one to seize the day as it is, I’m a worrier and someone that has to think about things before I do them. Preferably for days or weeks.

The Struggling Writer sounds a lot more like me. I am want to be a writer, and I struggle daily. Not just with writing, but just about everything, really.

So, if you’d like to continue to read about me and my albeit boring life, please head on over to my new address:

Monday Movie – Kevin Spacey does impressions

Not only is he a brilliant actor, Kevin Spacey can do amazing impressions of other actors. If you’re not watching, you can seriously imagine it being the actual person talking and not Kevin Spacey.

If that wasn’t enough, and you want to see some more, here he is during an Actors Studio session.

Monday Movie – Tom Holland in Lip Sync Battle

I’m finally off to see the new Spider-man movie on Thursday, and apparently the actor now playing Spidey is a really good dancer. I had no idea!

Just check him out in the Lip Sync Battle!

July To Do List

I’m trying to get (somewhat) organised, so I thought I might make myself a list of what I need to do this month to hopefully help. The chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia sometimes makes it difficult to focus on things, and remember things, so having it in list form sometimes helps.

  • Revise as many chapters as possible.
  • Sort through Shutterstock account and buy stock photos.
  • Buy paint and paint brushes.
  • Paint living room.
  • Arrange Wattpad account.
  • Edit Wattpad story for publishing in July or August.
  • Prepare guest room for family visit on 20-28 July.

What do you have to get done during July?

Monday Movie

I just saw the trailer for Marvel’s new TV-series Inhumans, and it’s looking pretty interesting. Admittedly, I’m fairly new to these characters, so I’m coming at it with fresh eyes. My first thought when watching the trailer was to wonder if Iwan Rheon always plays a bad guy. (Then again, I’ve only seen him in GoT…)

What do you think does the trailer seem interesting?

Instagram Roundup (June)

Roundup of Instagram posts for the month of June.

I marveled at the “wrongness” of the meatball dish at IKEA. It’s meant to be boiled potatoes, not chips!

The fancy promenade in the neighborhood where our house was.

A view in Spain.

The boyfriend got a very tasty dish in a restaurant. Showing off his usual hate of photos.

Interesting cliff formations at Bolnuevo in Spain.

The boyfriend and I at the beach in Spain one evening. At least he’s not flipping me off for once, only sticking his tongue out.

Funny sign at the Steam Vintage Tea Rooms.

Lovely afternoon tea at the Steam Vintage Tea Rooms.

The two cakes I made for the Swedish Midsummer BBQ. The green one is marzipan and the other is strawberries and cream.

Monthly Update (June)

It’s the last day of June, so let’s have a look at what’s been going on this month.

Writing

June has been terrible for writing, as I suspected it might. I’ve basically had no time to spare for writing. I started the month with working a 72 hour work week, followed by going straight on holiday to Spain for a week. After that I went straight back to working three nights, followed by my sister and her family coming to visit the same day I came off my last shift. They left today, on the 30th, so writing has pretty much not been happening.

The one thing I’ve done is the prologue and first chapter (very short ones) for a Fantasy Romance novella to go on Wattpad. Hopefully to start publishing in July, but I might postpone to August to make sure I have a bit more ready.

Spain

The boyfriend and I went on our very first holiday together this month. We spent a week in Spain, in a house with a private pool. Despite us dating for nearly six years, we never had a holiday away together since up until October 2015 we were living in separate countries, and any holiday was just spent visiting each other.

Going away just the two of us was absolutely lovely. There was a heatwave happening when we were there, and we were very lucky to have our own pool to cool us down a bit.

The beach in Spain. The sand was so hot it burned our feet!

“Swedish Midsummer”-inspired BBQ

In Sweden we celebrate Midsummer every year in June, and it’s quite possibly the biggest holiday after Christmas. This year I wanted to bring a little of that to England, and so I invited our friends and treated them to a Midsummer inspired BBQ. I offered Swedish crisps, meatballs, candy, cakes and some condiments to go with the burgers that were Swedish. For the brave, we also offered some pickled herring, which is a Swedish tradition at Midsummer.

Some of the things from the BBQ table.

Family Visit

As I mentioned earlier, my sister visited with her partner and one year old daughter. It was their first visit since I moved, and despite them being allergic to animals I think that they had a good time. I know I did. It was great seeing my little niece again since I hadn’t seen her since Christmas!

The weather was absolutely miserable this week, but we did manage to do a few things. We went shopping, of course, but we also had time for a trip to Swanage and the beach, and afternoon tea.

Niece’s first time having her bare feet in the sand.

We had afternoon tea at the Steam Vintage Tea Rooms.

WIP Wednesday

Once a month, I will share a piece of my current Work in Progress, and I arbitrarily decided that it will be the third Wednesday of every month. Because logic is over rated.

This is a scene from a Fantasy Romance that I’m planning to start publishing on Wattpad in July (if things go according to plan). The main characters are the King (Arain) and Queen (Shae) who have a marriage of convenience, but have been thrown together due to circumstance and are getting to know each other.

Shae lay deadly still, trying not to move, lest she brush up against Arain who was lying on the other side of the bed. It wasn’t overly large, and it was difficult to lie comfortable without touching one another. Especially since her husband was not only a fairly large man, but also liked to sprawl. Which left her lying as far out on her side as she could without falling off the edge, and keeping her arms and legs perfectly straight.

Even with several inches separating them, she could feel the heat radiating off Arain’s body, and it was nothing if not distracting. He was breathing deeply, obviously having no issues falling asleep with her in the bed, while she was wide awake, unable to let sleep claim her. It wasn’t fair.

“For the love of the Gods, Shae!” Arain suddenly growled, making her jump. Turning her head she saw that he was lying on his stomach, facing her, his eyes drowsy, but definitely awake. “Relax, please. It’s impossible to sleep with you lying like a log in the bed.”

“You’re welcome to sleep on the floor if you prefer,” Shae replied stiffly, which only made him chuckle.

“No, but thank you for the kind offer. Why don’t you just relax? I promise I won’t bite.”

“I’m not used to having someone in the bed with me,” Shae muttered.

“Well, whose fault is that?” Arain asked as he turned around and nestled into his pillow.

Shae stared at the back of his head for a moment, anger burning hotly inside her. The person who had originally requested a marriage of convenience was he, so he had no right to complain now. How dare he?! Unable to quite control her anger, she kicked out with both feet and pushed as hard as she could.

Arain went careening off the edge of the bed and landed on the floor with a yelp. Sitting up, he ran a hand through his tousled hair and stared at her. “What was that about?”

“I’m sorry,” Shae said, her voice deadpan. “Leg spasm.”

She turned her back to her husband, suddenly feeling much better. Maybe she’d be able to sleep after all.

I’m not here

When you’re reading this I will have arrived in Spain for my much needed holiday. I won’t really be around for the next week, but should be back to posting again after 19 June.

Let’s hope for sunshine, both for me and everyone else, wherever you are! (Unless of course you hate sunshine, then I hope for whatever weather you want for your location…)

Monday Movie – You’re Welcome

I watched Moana for the first time a couple of months ago, and I absolutely loved it. Most of the songs stuck with me, but this one possibly the most. Every time I say “you’re welcome” to someone, I tend to hum the song. I can’t help myself, it’s so catchy!

When I went home for Easter I heard my three year old niece singing it, which was adorable. She doesn’t know English, so she was just making noises that sounded similar to the words. Cutest ever.

Without further ado; You’re Welcome from the Moana movie, sung by Dwayne Johnson.
